I'm open to suggestions on very high quality rank transfer at reasonable prices. I'm gonna have 550 feet of k40 put to DVCam or MiniDV. There should be very little scene to scene correction required.

I know Super8Sound will do a great job for picture quality, but what I've heard so far is that, aside from being very expensive, they often have little regard for the customer. I have also heard some positive response about Yale along with comments that their transfers were OK. I'm on a deadline and limited budget so I can't really test these places out for myself.

    Use Roger Evan

One of the best thing going for Super 8 right now. $15-18 per 50ft roll.

I am very very very happy with CinePost in Atlanta. I wouldn't use anyone else. They do great work and know what they are doing.

I might get around to sending a test roll down to Roger. My biggest concern is the way Roger's machine handles film and the way it the image is captured seems like a simple film chain. Roger I think is making a very cool and much needed product and offers the same in service.

If you are looking for professional results I am still sold on RANK.

    Good Luck

Nigel, do you have any idea on price for Cinepost? I'd be transfering about 550 ft. (11 rolls) Cinepost is appealing because it's possible I could supervise the transfer in Atlanta, although I honestly wouldn't know much what to be supervising aside from simple aesthetics.

I think that they are about 200 an hour if you are a student. You can also provide your own tape stock. Check thier website and give them a call.

Aside from being extremely friendly and helpful, Cinepost's student rate is $145/hr! That is for supervised or unsupervised. I called back two days later to double check because I thought maybe I'd heard the guy wrong the first time. I'm going to supervise the transfer with my DP and if anyone is interested in more feedback I'll leave it afterwards, but so far they've been wonderful.

I think that CinePost is the only place to go. Where are you located? In Atlanta?

Good Guess. It sounds very much like what I shoot. I do live in the Rural West so very often I get hired to shoot things like that. And, I did live in Georgia for some time--I know many great people from Roswell. I went to UGA afterall.

However, I am sad or happy to say what you saw was not mine. I have shot very few rolls of Pro8mm in my life. Due to the ridiculous cost. I am hoping to return to the South soon. I will try in October if I am not living in Germany by then.

    Good luck
